I need help finding a hotel in New York that will accomodate a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children). None of those we have contacted will let us stay in the same room even though they have 2 Q beds and sofa bed.
Booking 2 rooms is too expensive. I want to stay in the 150-225 $/night range (month of July).
Any suggestions ?

Family of 5 - a nightmare to find a hotel
I think your best bet will be to find an apartment or apartment style hotel. Radio City Apartments and the Doubletree Suites in Times Square are mentioned on this site often. You can do a search for them above. You may also want to check out the vrbo.com apartments. These are independently leased and owned apartments. Make sure you thoroughly do your research before renting one. Good luck!
Family of 5 - a nightmare to find a hotel
There are occupancy laws in NYC which will prevent you from keeping five people in a room. As the last poster said, try something more residential. See if you can book an apartment or condo instead of a mainstream hotel.
Your budget is probably unrealistic for a hotel for 5. Here%26#39;s another thread from today with same issue but the options may be more than you want to spend.

You can try looking for an apt. but many don%26#39;t want kids. How long is your stay?
Hi,
We%26#39;ve just booked a junior suite at the Vinnci Avalon Hotel on 32nd St for our family of 5.
The room consists of 2 queen beds and a seperate living area with a sofa bed. (Try their site for photos)
The reviews seemed promising on here and as it was a decent price for 5 of us, we went ahead and booked it.
We did look for apartments also but found it hard to find a decent one within a midtown location, and within our price range.
Hope this helps.

There are numerous suite type hotels in NYC, all of which allow a family of five in a one bedroom suite. My favorites are the Doubletree Guest Suites at Times Square (this will cost more than your budget) and Radio City Apartments (the price point is exactly what you are looking for-book soon as they fill up early). Other options include Embassy Suites downtown (a good distance from Times Square/Central Park, etc), the Affinia chain of hotels, as well as numerous other choices. Do a search of suite hotels on this forum for advice.
Your biggest problem will be your budget. I hate to be too frank but it is unrealistic to think that in July you could get a suite for a family of five for only $225.00 per night, especially once all taxes are added into the mix-unless you have success at the Radio City Apartments. New York City is an expensive albeit magnificent city to visit with a family. It will be worth it to spend a little more to experience the fun, culture and excitement of New York. Moms
Hope this helps:
Best Western Hotel, 49th street on the corner of Lexington.
About USD$160 per night
Breakfast included
The Salisbury Hotel looks to be spacious - they have one bedroom suites which has 2 doubles and a bed settee. I enquired about this recently and they were more than happy to take 6 people so you should not have a problem with 5. Not sure of the rate for July but check Trip advisor reviews.
I notice that new york hotel are a pain regarding # of peeps in a room. How are they going to monitor this? If you feel the room is big enough, why not check in with another person and have the other 3 wait then go up after check in? How would anyone know??
Because the rooms are NOT BIG ENOUGH.
Have you seen some of the NYC hotel rooms?
And the maids also keep track and possibly the security people. They are around even if you don%26#39;t see them.
A good option for you could be The Comfort Inn Chelsea at 18 W. 25th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue and adjacent to beautiful Madison Square Park. There are also several subway stops nearby. This is an older hotel that Choice Hotels (Comfort Inn`s parent company) bought and renovated last year. What you`d need would be one of their 2 room suites which are actually just 2 bedrooms that share a bath......1 room with king or queen bed and the other room with 2 double beds. Go to comfortinn.com and in July they are offering an internet rate or AAA/CAA rate of $306 for this type of ';suite.'; Although this is more than your, undoubtedly unattainable, $225 price cap, this hotel offers a decent, included continental breakfast which will easily save a family of 5, at least $50 a day which would bring your daily rate down to $256 per day. Of course you must consider the high rate of NYC taxes as well. This is actually an outstanding deal for a family of 5 and I would suggest that you book it as soon as possible. You can cancel up to 24 hours before your arrival with no penalties, so if something better comes along, you`ll have nothing to lose. I`ve stayed at this property and, while it`s nothing fancy the rooms are compact, have been nicely renovated and it`s in a good, safe location. There are decent amenities, including a tv in each room, refrigerator, iron/ironing board, coffee maker, and the aforementioned breakfast. Don`t pass this up if you can get it. I`ll be interested in hearing if you get this deal. Don`t pass it up. I`d be willing to bet that you won`t be able to do better. Good luck!
