Is NY popular for St Patricks Day?

Just wondering if it will be a bit quieter that day and so a good time to tackle SOL and ESB? Or do the tourists flock in like nobodies business?

Is NY popular for St Patricks Day?

Lol...picture drunk people in green Dr. Suess hats running around puking.

I suppose during the parade the lines at ESB and SOL might not be so long though. Otherwise, I%26#39;d avoid 5th ave from midtown up, unless you wish to partake in the shennanigans.

Oh I don%26#39;t want to miss the shennanigans!!

Incidentally - what time does the parade start? Can%26#39;t miss that!

Hmm..that I don%26#39;t know. I think it%26#39;s pretty early though.

They bus em in!

But, I would think they%26#39;re mostly in parade and drinking frenzy - that could be a good day to go to the major tourist sites.

Oh but I don%26#39;t want to miss the parade!

Come on then folks - when does it start and where is the best place to catch it from?

Ask and ye shall receive... 11 am

Heres a website with more info...

Last year my mother came to town and stayed at the Algonquin. They organized a segment of the parade and some of the floats right in front of the hotel. She thought it was about the coolest thing ever and thought she was an ';insider for the day';.

My other suggestion would be to watch it in front of Saks or Bergdorf Goodman. It%26#39;s cold and you%26#39;re gonna have to use the bathroom at some point. Theirs are much nicer than a city funded port-a-pot.

Here%26#39;s some info I just received via a GOOGLE search:

Saturday, March 17th 2007

Starting @ 44th Street and Fifth Avenue @11:00 a.m.

The parade marches up 5th Avenue, clan by clan, from 44th to 86th streets starting at 11am on St. Patrick%26#39;s Day (Saturday, March 17th).

DO CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE - everything you ever wanted to know about the parade and then some!!!

Poppa

Aw thanks you lot!

I%26#39;m strictly %26#39;no itinerary%26#39; this trip but I would hate to miss the main reason that I picked this time of year to revisit NY.

I think I%26#39;m sorted now! And a special thanks for the toilet info! I%26#39;m older now so tend to hate the likes of porta-loos!

Ugh - its a Saturday! Millions of drunken tourists will be screaming in the streets all night!

The steps of the Metropolitan museum are another good spot near the end of the parade route. There%26#39;s an Irish club on Fifth Ave. around 80th st. so most of the bands do a special thing up there. But yes, I agree, falling on a Sat., this will be a very messy St. Pat%26#39;s day.
