special lunch date

I would like to take my date on a special brunch/dessert place in mid-town. Any suggestions? I%26#39;m planning to propose to her there.

special lunch date

The Boathouse in Central Park.

Thanks Voyagereuse for your humor..... isn%26#39;t it a bit cold and the place is closed for the winter?

Why on earth would you think that one of the terrific NYC Local Experts would steer you wrong? The Boathouse is indeed open for lunch/brunch in winter months:

They have heaters, but I, who am always hot, had a problem with the cold air blowing up between the floor boards (aka dock)

Then again, I havent been there since 1986, when I still had to wear skirts to work!

Brunch and dessert (at what time?) are 2 different things. The Boat House is a great idea for a weekend brunch. Not so great imo for dessert. If you want to do dessert in the evening after a dinner, the very fine restaurant Daniel will allow you to come for just dessert. I think the rest. Jean Georges in the Trump International hotel would too.

Since you come from Vienna, would you like something that feels a bit like home? Cafe Sabarsky in the Neue Museum has lovely pastry.

meiln: The Boathouse in Central Park is the name of a restaurant in a building that may, at one time, have housed boats. You will not be proposing in a drafty old building with boats hanging from the ceiling. There are actually several different dining options at the Boathouse. One is on the dock area. It is lovely in the spring and fall to have wine and cheese in this area. There is also a take out cafe that is good for a quick bite. I believe that Voy was referring to the finer dining restaurant. White table clothes, a lovely menu and a beautiful view of the boat basin and the lovely fountain in the distance. A very memorable experience, to be sure. Moms
