cool place to stay with teenage son?

My son and I (he%26#39;s 15) are coming to NYC for his birthday and we are looking for a boutique hotel. (He is very interested in hip design) A friend suggested being near the park because of easy access to attractions, (museums, shopping, etc) Any recommendations of best area in NYC and hotel? Would love a view as well but not necessary. Also, concierge service is important since we don%26#39;t know the city very well. Willing to spend $300-$500/night.

No one best spot. The park is lovely but not in a ';cool'; (for teens) area. One big ';heads up'; on hip hotels in NYC, very often basic room sizes in these are miniscule (ie boutique is often code for closet sized rooms that are form over function).

If you want to be near the park, the Parker Meridien is a skyscraper with views and an unusual rooftop enclosed swimming pool plus 2 destination restaurants (Norma%26#39;s famous for huge breakfasts and the Burger Joint).

The Bryant Park hotel is trendier (you%26#39;ll find some rock stars and celebs there ) and still in midtown nearish Times Square but just off Fifth Ave..

Most teens think Times Square is THE place to be. (It%26#39;s really crowded and busy) and there are some hip options in and near. The W Times Square (small rooms but cool), the Dream hotel, the Royalton, the QT (with a swimming pool in the lobby). Just read reviews here carefully. Some may have crazy set ups like no bathroom doors (I think the QT may fit into that).

The hipper areas are south of midtown, Chelsea, Soho, the village, Tribeca. The W Union Square might be fun.

hipguide.com has a pretty accurate list of hip hotels, restaurants etc.
