Just have to come back...

Ok me and my boyf are looking to come back this year, 3rd time for me 2nd for him. We both can agree NY isn%26#39;t a place you can stay away from for long!

Considering coming around thanksgiving and wanted a bit of advice on hotels and stuff.

Having grown up on all american programmes and films I%26#39;m starting now to want to see ny from an untypical view, IE not one that has been hyped up in a film. Last time we were there did all the typical first time things (well was fror him) such as stayed at the plaza (one night only in a mega suite, was v expensive but for our last night and now you can%26#39;t stay there anymore was worth it) central park, rockerfella empire state etc and was wondering where people would recommend to

a) eat

b) have drinks on a night (something we didn;t actully do much of when we were last there)

c) stay on the 4 star mark and

d) see or visit

Know it%26#39;s a lot to ask but having done the usual tourist stuff (of which some we%26#39;d do again) was looking for the best places that a native NY would go to.

Thanks

Sam

Have you toured Brooklyn in your prior visits? If not, you could easily spend a day there. You can explore the streets of Brooklyn Heights and Park Slopes, they are full of beautiful historical brown stones, quaint stores and cafes. The views of Lower Manhattan from the Promenade at the Heights is spectacular. Visit Brooklyn Museum and the adjacent Prospect Park. Many consider PP as Frederick Law Olmsted%26#39;s (the landscape architect who designed the more famous Central Park) best work. There%26#39;s also a farmers market at the Grand Army Plaza (one of the entrances to PP), but I don%26#39;t know what times and days the market operates.

Were you talking about the Mark Hotel which was a 5 star I believe? It%26#39;s been closed for condo conversion.

I highly recommend NYC Ballet%26#39;s Nutcracker, they run from the day after Thanksgiving to end of Dec. or early Jan.

Great ideas, Gothamian!
