Avenue Q or Spamalot?

I am surprising my husband with a trip to New York for his 40th and I have asked his mum to buy us tickets to see a show while we are there - which of these two would anyone recommend? Or can you recommend something else for someone who does not do musicals!

thanks

Avenue Q or Spamalot?

Haven%26#39;t seen Spamalot but loved Avenue Q. Am gradually teaching my husband just how great a musical can be!

Avenue Q is hillarious and irreverent, very non-pc but sheer entertainment. You%26#39;ll laugh the whole way through.

At the moment I think London has the better Spamalot cast.

Avenue Q or Spamalot?

Haven%26#39;t seen Avenue Q but absolutely loved Spamalot! My husband doesn%26#39;t do musicals either and he totally enjoyed Spamalot.

Never saw Spamalot, but we did watch Avenue Q. It was a gift to my fiance for going to see 5 other shows that I really wanted to see. We enjoyed the show quite a bit.

If hubby likes Monty Python, do Spamalot. Both are good options I think.

I agree, either are good, but my preference is Avenue Q.

By the way, these are both musicals, so if you prefer a drama, let us know your dates because quite a few new shows are opening, including The Year of Magical Thinking, Inherit the Wind, Frost/Nixon, Journeys End, Talk Radio and A Moon for the Misbegotten.

Check this site for the listings and show synopsis:

Thanks for all your replies.

We do like dramas, visiting the National in London several times a year, so I could possible do one drama and a musical I think he would like as a compromise - I would like to see Chorus Line, but that will have to be when it is my special trip not his. He did see Wicked her in London but only because we saw a preview and the tickets were only 拢5.

We will be in New York 3-7 Feb. I will check out the reviews of some of the plays you have suggested, but any other ideas will be gratefully recieved.

Thanks again.

I saw Spamalot and thought it was great, but I am a 55 y/o huge Python fan. (If you HATE Monty Python or the movie ';MP and the Holy Grail';, I wouldn%26#39;t go see this play.)

Also, my daughter (20) saw Avenue Q and she thought it was great. She bought the cast recording and I%26#39;ve listened to it and most of the songs are good to very funny.

From what I%26#39;ve read, and heard on the CD, Ave Q seems geared more toward people in their 20%26#39;s, 30%26#39;s and (depending on the person) early 40%26#39;s (unless you are an old nutcase like me.)

From the songs I%26#39;ve heard, and what my daughter told me, Ave Q definitely has more ';adult'; language than Spamalot, if that means anything to you.

I adored Spamalot and so did my boyfriend. I havent seen Avenue Q though so can%26#39;t compare both of them. If your husband likes Monty Python, then Spamalot is definitely going to be a hit
