Suitable musical for young children (8 & 5 years old)

Would like to bring my kids for a musical, would ';The Drowsy Chaperone'; be appropriate ? If not, what would be the recommendation.

Is it possible to buy 1/2 price tickets for all broadway shows or only the less popular ones are on sales ?

The half price tickets are not for all shows but the ones with availability. If you look on tdf.org/tkts you can see which shows have recently been available at the TKTS booth. But do you know you can also buy tix at a discount in advance? Not quite as cheap as the TKTS booth, but a lot easier and less stressful, esp. for 3 or 4 of you. Broadwaybox.com has discount codes (1-3 months before show dates usually) that allow you to purchase online or by phone.

Beauty %26amp; the Beast would be good and is generally available on discount.

Lion King and Mary Poppins would also be good but not avail. on discount. I don%26#39;t think Drowsy Chaperone is inappropriate but the kids might not get it.

You might want to look into the New Victory theater designed esp. for families

Also there are several off Broadway shows quite popular with families with kids

Blue Man Group

Stomp

Drumstruck

Slava%26#39;s Snow Show

Some of these can be bought on discount

The Drowsey Chaperone is 1hr50 without an intermission.

Unless you know your children can sit that long without fidgeting and getting noisy and bored and bother other theatergoers, skip the show.

I was sitting at Les Miserables last Thursday in front of a child who apparently along with his parents were tourists from France. He kept asking his mom questions throughout the 1st act. Everyone was quiet. It was extremely annoying. I moved at intermission.

by the way, Slava%26#39;s Snowshow and Drumstruck have closed.

Hi, I would highly recommend paying full price to take your children to see Lion King. It is fantastic! Other great choices include Beauty and The Beast-even boys love this as there are many special effects and the Beast is truly beastly. Discount tickets should be available. We are going to see Mary Poppins with our gang in August (my gang%26#39;s ages are 9, 11 and 13) . No discounts on this one though.

For discounted tickets, my vote is for Beauty and the Beast. Moms

By the way, try broadwaybox.com for discounted tickets.

What are your kids ages and when will you be here?

Agree with Moms that The Lion King and Beauty %26amp; the Beast would be better choices for 8 %26amp; 5-year-olds. B%26amp;B was the first Broadway show my son saw; he was 5 at the time and it definitely held his attention!

My kids are 5 %26amp; 8 years old and we would be here inJun (1st 2 weeks).

Thks for the advices!!

My son also saw Beauty and the Beast at the age of 5 and loved it! He sat on the edge of his seat through the entire performance. Now, all Broadway shows seem to leave him sitting on the edge of his seat. He is 11 years old and we recently saw Wicked. He loved it so much that when his friend invited him to see it again two weeks later he gladly accepted the invitation. (Now, why wasn%26#39;t I invited?!) Lion King is another of his favorites.
