Plan to go to New York City in around easter. Hotels seem to be running around $300.00 per night.

Is there somewhere outside the city cheaper to stay that has easily accessable public transportation (especialy in the evening) into Manhattan.

As you noticed, Manhattan hotels are more expensive -- but the convenience of being able to pop back into your hotel during the day is worth it to many people. You are the one to decide that, though.

The most convenient hotels outside Manhattan are those in Queens that are handy to the subway (e.g., the LaQuinta on Queens boulevard) or those in New Jersey that are handy to the PATH train. Be aware, though, that many hotels in both Jersey and Queens are nowhere close to the train -- if you think you have found a likely prospect, ask here first.
