Please could someone advise on the best way to travel form DC to NY, 3 people with alot of luggage. Flying would appear to be quicker but perhaps not when you take into account security and distance to hotel.
Also what is the train/bus journey like, senic or not? and how easy to stow large cases.
Thanks,
Travel from Washington to New York.Try Amtrak. www.amtrak.com for the schedule and time.
It will take you from Washington, DC WAS to New York Penn Station. I stay near New York Penn Station, a hotel called Windale Inn.
Travel from Washington to New York.There%26#39;s really no best way. Train, bus and flying all take about the same amount of time when you add in time to/from the airport and security time for flying. Here%26#39;s an article that%26#39;s not so current but lays out the pros and cons pretty clearly

Jet Blue (jetblue.com) also now flies b/w Washington%26#39;s Dulles airport (IAD) and JFK for as little as $39 one way.
If you%26#39;re already at the airport (ie flying into Washington) flying might make more sense. Most people who are in either of the cities would use the train.
PS., if you want to use the train, there are discounts that might help to reduce the price. There%26#39;s an AAA discount. I think if you belong to the equivalent in the UK it might work.
Here%26#39;s a thread from the DC forum with more info for you, including details re: luggage

Thank you cocklecock, I actually started both threads, I didn%26#39;t go back and check the Washington one before I started this one. I can%26#39;t believe how quick the replies are on these forums - Fantastic.
