i am going nuts with accomodation! Please assist!

We are coming from Australia in the middle of July and catching the train in from Boston,

We will be staying 4 nights in NYC and there are 12 of us in total...6 adults and 6 tweenies!

Where can we stay? I have checked out so many hotels, most of them are charging ridiculous prices over $400USD a night, which is a lot for us!

We want to be close to the action....time square, shopping, broadway etc

Please assist!!

I just recently went through this...and the hotels are a lot more than we expected to pay. Check out priceline.com. We got a 4 star hotel for half the price. We still have 3 months till we visit...and we could have gotten a better deal if we had waited a little longer to bid on priceline, but my husband and I wanted to get it all booked now and not have to worry about it again. So now, we just have to wait....which I think is even harder than finding the right hotel at a decent price, lol. Take care, and good luck in your search!

We went to New York Dec.10/06 with our 11 year old son. We stayed at the Shelburne Murray Hill (Lexington and 37th) and paid $200 a night. I phoned the hotel directly to get that rate....the hotel room was great - two queen size beds, a small kitchen, clean bathroom and we had a view of the Empire State Bldg. We were able to walk everywhere.....there are other hotels closer to Time Square - but for the price we really enjoyed this hotel - staff was great - we recommend it and will stay there again.

Priceline won%26#39;t work for mella2007. Priceline only guarantees a room for 2 people with one bed. For more than 2 people to a room (in NYC) it%26#39;s not possible.

Oops, I knew that but wasn%26#39;t even paying attention. Thanks NYWhiz!

I`m going to assume, with your budget contraints, that you`re looking for a room with 2 beds that will accomodate 2 adults and 2 kids. I checked rates for The Super 8 Hotel Times Square at 59 W. 46th St. This is a terrific location, convenient to everywhere you want to be. This is one of the ';budget'; properties with applecorehotels.com, and their best location. I randomly checked the 4 nights of July 13-16 and they are offering a room with 2 double beds for $194.99. The Super8.com website is offering the same room for $179.99. Kids under 17 stay free and a decent continental breakfast is included which will easily add a daily savings of at least $40. I`ve stayed here and this is a well run tourist class hotel, clean and well maintained. The rooms are smallish as in most NYC hotels. Check out the tripadvisor reviews and decide for yourself. If evenly remotely interested, you should book this as soon as possible. If something better comes along you can cancel 24 hours ahead of arrival with no penalties. As previously noted, the location is outstanding. This is a good deal for a family, but at this price, don`t expect The Four Seasons.

Mid July is not typically a busy time in New York. People get out of the city to avoid the summer heat. I`m sure you`ll find that hotel prices will drop considerably as your date of arrival gets closer. In the mean time, it could benefit you to book something you may find at a decent price now, as long as no penalty payments are required if you cancel. Most hotel websites only require that you cancel 24 hours before your scheduled arrival time. Then if a better deal comes along, you`ll have nothing to lose.
