Groupd of 35 teen girls & 1 day in city

We are coming to the city in late March for a cheerleading competition and we have one full day to see the city.

There will be 20 girls ages 14-18 %26amp; 15 moms.

Any suggestions?

Aside from safety, your biggest issue will probably be moving around the City in a group that size. Even crossing the street will be a problem.

If you want to cover the entire City in one day, try to arrange a group bus tour, for the morning, that will take you through the major, more remote sites. Check the on/off double decker bus tours at

http://www.coachusa.com/newyorksightseeing/

Then have some ';free time'; in mid-town (with clear meeting times and locations!) so that everyone can visit the wonderful stores, enjoy Roackerfeller Center, take carriage rides, etc. For the evening, you might be able to get a group rate for a Broadway show.

For lunch, consider one of the bigger restaurants in Chinatown that have those big tables that seat ten people (e.g., that place on Elizabeth Street directly across from the Fifth Precinct -- what is the name ... is it Jing Fong? ... perhaps -- or Grand Harmony Palace on Mott Street north of Canal.) You could all be seated at once, and I doubt there are many others which could do the same. Your group would probably also like the shopping in that area, whether for inexpensive souvenirs or for other things.

I have to chime in on this one. I frequently take my teen age daughter%26#39;s Girl Scout troop to NYC. It is such fun. The largest group I have taken is 20 but 35 should be doable albeit a bit chaotic! Here is a proposed itinerary. I am assuming you are staying in the Time Square area. This itinerary is geared toward teens so it may not include everything you usually think of in NYC but it should hit the highlights and please the girls.

1. Start your day at Rockefeller Center. Take a look at the Ice Rink. Get pictures of the girls at this locale. Head north on 5th Avenue. Tiffany%26#39;s may not want all of you to walk into the store but if they do, go. It is just plain fun. Keep walking. Teenagers LOVE the Abercrombie and Fitch store on 5th Avenue. The half-dressed male models are a big hit! Picture opportunity again! FAO Schwartz is in the GM buidling across from the Plaza Hotel. The girls may want to quickly visit. The BIG piano performance is memorable.

2. Head to Central Park. Enter the park at 5th and Central Park South. You could go on a carriage ride as it is the tourist thing to do, and girls love it, but you could also skip it to save time. Either way, head into the park in the opposite direction of the direction the horses are exiting the park (does that make sense?!) Woolman Ice Rink will be on your left, the girls may remember this from Home Alone 2. Continue into the park, heading slightly to the left (get a map of Central Park online-it will help). Head to the Carousel. MOms and daughters must ride! It is such fun and a bargain at $1.50 a person. After the ride, walk further into the park to the boat basin. You will see the beautiful Bethesda Fountain that the girls should recognize from TV shows and movies. If the boats are in the water, rent row boats (you will probably end up taking them all!) and enjoy a peaceful ride around the lake. Have lunch at the snack bar located inside the Loeb Boathouse. Sandwiches, burgers, fries, chicken fingers at very reasonable prices (around $6.95 for a meal). There is an indoor eating area and an outdoor eating area behind the restaurant. This is a good deal and a quick place to eat when you are on the move. Leave the park by walking back to 5th Ave and Central Park South. (long walk, to be sure)

3. Take the Subway to Canal Street. The girls will LOVE shopping for inexpensive jewelry, purses and accessories. I cannot emphasize enough how much they will LOVE this area! Bargaining galore and cool stuff. It was the highlight of my troop%26#39;s trip last June. Head into Little Italy for some gelato when the shopping is done.

4. If you are inclined to do so, visit the World Trade Center site. I must admit, we visited it again this past Sunday and it did not move me as much as it did in the past. There is a great deal of construction, which is a good thing, but it wasn%26#39;t as moving. St. Paul%26#39;s church, across the street, continues to bring a tear to my eye, especially when I saw a picture of one of my husband%26#39;s colleagues. Worth a visit.

5. Take the subway to Grand Central Station. Walk around and admire this beautiful building. There is a food court downstairs that may suit your needs for dinner. There are foods from all over the world served in this beautiful food court. Save room for Jr.%26#39;s Cheesecake. OR take the train back to Times Square. Look around. The girls may want to take a ride on the Toys R Us ferris wheel. Or they may want to head into Sephora-the make up store. If you have not eaten at Grand Central Station, I would try to get a reservation at John%26#39;s Pizzeria on 43rd between 7th and 8th. Great pizza at a fair price in a nice atmosphere(an old chruch building)

6. I would end the day by going to the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center. Get discount coupons at Broadwaybox.com. The view at night is awe -inspiring. Finish the day with dessert at Ellen%26#39;s Stardust Diner at 51st and Broadway. The singing waitstaff and ice cream treats are a great way to end the day. (Moms can get a cocktail if they prefer)

That%26#39;s how I would spend an exhausting but fulfilling day with the girls. Hope it helps! Moms
