#1 Restaurant for a Date

I will be in New York for the first time next weekend January 20 - 23rd with my boyfriend. On Monday evening we%26#39;d like to go to a nice dinner and I%26#39;m not sure where to go. Since this is our first time I%26#39;d like to go somewhere that has a nice view or ambience with a true feeling of New York. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for us.

Thanks!

If you want true NYC, local NYC experience, try Peasant on Elizabeth St. There isn%26#39;t a view, but the food is amazing and the ambience is wonderful. There is a street level restaurant and then a small area downstairs. Both are nice, but I would recommend the basement. It is dark, relaxing, and romantic. This will give you a try feel of NYC as a local. Enjoy.

I like Candela on Union Square. It%26#39;s big and bustling in the front, but romantic in the back. Very dark, lots of red velvet, wood, wrought iron chandeliers, tall celings, very ';goth';. Not expensive, great wine list, and a nice youngish crowd.

As you can see from the answers you%26#39;ve gotten, the view restaurants tend to be more touristy or for special occasions. They%26#39;re also generally more expensive.

If you do want a view, the River Cafe is considered the best option with good food and a gorgeous view but very pricey.

The Sea Grill and Rock Center Cafe both have views of the skating rink at Rock. Ctr. with good food (esp. the Sea Grill). I think it depends on what YOU envision as a ';true feeling of NY.'; We also don%26#39;t know your age or your food likes. Do you want something romantic or trendy or????

Keep in mind that night is the beginning of the promotion known as restaurant week where you can dine relatively cheaply at some of the best places in the city. It may be very hard to get a rezzie. Jean Georges and Asiate are 2 places with views and very good food. Here%26#39;s the list

I am a fan of Landmarc downtown on Franklin Street if you take the subway. It%26#39;s quiet with a delicious menu. You must try the mussels- eat ALL the bread with the dipping from the boulliabase! Considered Tribeca, its definitlt NY at its finest. Try to get reservations for an upsatairs table. Bon appetit!
