Le Zie

Voy and qb - WOW!

Le Zie is a gem - %26#39;Best Spaghetti and Meatballs in NYC%26#39; and so they were.

Got a bit nervous walking up to the place seeing the lettering on the awning ';Free Delivery'; and the guys taking off on their bikes w/brown paper bags, but when we got inside our views certainly changed.

It was a bit busy on Saturday evening, we got in around 7:15, sat in the front room, had some great wine, excellent Caesar salad and according to my wife, the best chicken piccata she ever tasted; myself I went with the spaghetti/meatballs - a very good choice.

We took a cab down, a bit of weather but the owner mentioned the subway station a minute away so we %26#39;tubed%26#39; it back.

It is definitely on our list for another visit.

BTW it on 172 7th Avenue at 20th Street just a couple of streets up from the 18th St subway (#1 train uptown).

Anyone in the City now or in the near future - give it a go, no regrets.

Plus, for NYC the prices were quite reasonable!!!!

Thanks again to my colleagues Voy and qb.

Le Zie

...and a rave from Poppa is worth extra points!

Glad you enjoyed, esteemed colleague, and thanks for the vote of confidence to try it! That%26#39;s the ultimate!

Now I must try one of yours. What do you suggest in the same price range (anything but Chinese)?

Le Zie

Actually QB, You know my previous experience with Le Zie.

I told you a few months ago that you%26#39;d written about it so often I though maybe it was time to let go of my grudge.

I did go back for dinner early last month and everything was delicious.

I%26#39;d mentioned it to my Italian tutor the next day and he suggested

Il Bastardo across the street as well. Apparently they are owned by the same people.

qb - I%26#39;ve eaten at Rachael%26#39;s many times, from sandwiches to complete dinner, this place bills itself as an American bistro; here is what I said about it in %26#39;05: For a more sublime Italian, try Pietransanta on the corner of 47th and 9th Avenue. It may be a couple of dollars more than Le Zie, but I think it is worth the money.

I%26#39;m really as restaurant experimenter and like to try new places, although this past weekend we did end up at CIBO, 2nd time in less than a month, their prix fixe can%26#39;t be beat. I had the salmon over a white bean melange and my wife enjoyed, but could not finish, a very tasty and creative spaghetti Bolognese.

The chopped salad and field green salads were extremely tasty and the chocolate souffle and bread pudding delicious.

Coffees were on the house, the total with wine, before tax and tip was around $85.00, not bad for NYC, IMO.

Our waiter was quite personable and kept us updated on the NE Patriots game which was a cliff hanger.

This is another spot I can heartily recommend.

And I do thank you for your kind words.

Poppa

I also recommend Rachel%26#39;s %26amp; Pietrasanta.

Pieatrsanta%26#39;s Sunday brunch is the best deal in town, and delicious as well.

As an aside - Rachael%26#39;s and Pietransanta are owned by the same person(s).

Never a disappointment, thanks NYCgirl.

Poppa

sasharoon - wow, that%26#39;s really a vote of confidence! Whew!

I actually looked up their record recenlty, and they have a very good score, esp considering this is NYC.

I have a love-hate relationship with this webpage:

Thanks for the recos!

;o)

These are my neighborhood Italian restaurants... Le Zie, Sette and Il Bastardo...

Le Zie is the best of the bunch. Its in the former location of the surfer themed California Burrito shop (I forgot the exact name), which is why it has that wave thing on the wall in the back and the take-out-y look.

Il Bastardo, Sette - and Intermezzo on 8th at 20th - are all the same owner. I%26#39;m not sure they own Le Zie. Il Bastardo used to be a night club called Vizcaya that got its liquor license via misrepresentation and the entire neighborhood was up in arms about a basically illegal after hours club that kept us up all night (we were even on 20/20!). We boycotted their business for years, and I try to reward them for good behavior by patronizing them now! But, given the choice, I%26#39;d go to Le Zie.

Another great spot very few people outside the neighborhood know is Singe Vert south of 20th on 7th. Excellent mussels and French bistro food.

Poppa Read your post about Le Zie sounds good, but exactly where abouts is it We are visiting in June and are syaying at the roosevelt First timers to New York. 5 days great cheers

God Morning! Le Zie is on 172 7th Avenue between 20th and 21st streets.

It is an unassuming place with an awning out front that touts %26#39;Free Delivery%26#39;.

You can either cab it from The Roosevelt or take the #1 subway to 18th Street and walk up two short blocks.

Bon appetit!

Good Morning! - sorry!
