We will really only be there one day...arriving around 10am on a saturday and leaving around 1 or 2 pm on sunday...we are going to a show at 8pm saturday night....so for our really short trip...there isn%26#39;t much time, but what is a must do/see? We are game for just about anything! A mid 20%26#39;s married couple having a little getaway from our 3 kids!
What is a must see in NYC?
Walk from Broadway to Times Square during the day
After the Broadway show to a nice club.

Walk from Broadway to Times Square? TS is ON Broadway.
I%26#39;d say on Sat. take one of the bus tours when you arrive. Either NYPartyshuttle.com or one of the hop on/off tours. Broadwaynyc has mentioned that the citysightsny.com hop on/off are enclosed on top (vs. Grayline which are open). Although as I recall you%26#39;re coming in April so open may be fine. Anyway, taking a bus tour will give you an overview and you%26#39;ll be able to see a lot of different spots. After the tour, go to the hotel, rest, change, maybe go for a drink somewhere nice before the theater (your hotel has a nice bar). Eat like a NYer after the theater. Maybe head downtown and eat in Greenwich Village if you%26#39;re not too tired.
On Sunday, go to Central Park if the weather is good and have a walk around. Have a nice brunch and head out.
You might want to go up to Top of the Rock (at Rockefeller Center) at some point, not too far from your hotel.
I suggest both gicarr03 and PrestonTraveller buy or borrow (from a library) a map and or a NYC guidebook.
It%26#39;s like another poster last week asking if they should go to Broadway or Manhattan or something ridiculous like that.
Do some research about the City; what do you like to do, we can tell you a hundred different things, however, not knowing your likes/dislikes/budget it would be fruitless.
Poppa, trust me, we have looked at all sorts of maps online and have pinpointed where everything is...I am just trying to get a better idea of what we will really have time for...and what we shouldn%26#39;t miss out on while we are there. We are planning on going up the empire state building after the show...late at night so we can see NYC at night, all lit up. We%26#39;ve seen that the elevator is open till around 1am, I think. We also know that our hotel is in the lower part of Times Square, where the theatre is in the upper parts. The only thing we are worried about is not having enough time to see everything that we want to...we wish we had more time to spend there...but for now, this is it. We%26#39;ve also thought about getting one of those GPS tour guide things, lol. That way, we can hear about things when we want...and there isn%26#39;t much chance of us getting lost, either. :)
We got back last week and we most enjoyed walking the Brooklyn Bridge and going to Chinatown. And if you want to dine at a popular restaurant pre-theater make sure that you get reservations. We saw several groups turned away and that was on a Thursday night. You%26#39;re going to have a fantastic time! I%26#39;m jealous.
Jennifer
Thanks for your response, Jennifer. We plan on eating a late lunch at the Carnegie Deli...which should fill us up pretty good before the show, lol. Then, my husband wants to go to Hard Rock Cafe after the show to eat. I%26#39;m sure our plans will change as it gets closer and we find more stuff we want to do. I am very excited...this is only my second trip to NYC. The first was about 7 years ago, and I went with my mom on a shopping bus trip. We didn%26#39;t really enjoy it....didn%26#39;t get to see much because we were rushed so much, and wanted to shop. My husband really wants me to enjoy this weekend...and have a good time. So it%26#39;s pretty much whatever I want to do! The only thing he wants is to take me to St. Patricks Cathedral...he%26#39;s been there and loved it, so he really wants me to see it. Other than that, the plans are mine! HEHEHE!
There are so many better dining options than the Hard Rock Cafe!
Just check on this forum, as a matter of fact I was in the City this past weekend and recommended a couple of places, nothing too outrageous price wise and some good dining choices.
Look under my post Le Zie for some much more creative dining recommendations.
Poppa
Yeah, I saw that post..and they sound wonderful...but for some reason, my hubby wants to go to HRC. Don%26#39;t know why, lol. We%26#39;ve checked on here to see the list of restaurants...and I have yet to check out menupages.com for some ideas. What%26#39;s a good place for a breakfast buffet? That%26#39;s my favorite meal of the day to eat out, lol!
