hotel taxes

Hi there!

I%26#39;m still trying to choose between hotels (have accidentally widened my ';narrowed down'; choices to 4 possibles; Ameritania, Doubletree, Casablanca and Sofitel if I can get it for the right budget).

Anyhow, I was wondering if someone can please confirm about hotel taxes for me please? I%26#39;ve been told about the city tax at approx 13%. Is this payable to the hotel, or to the tour company I book with? And is it normally included in the advertised price, or do I need ot watch for the fine print and be prepared to pay an extra 13% on my hotel cost.

Sorry if this question has been covered before, but the additional cost would affect my chocie of hotel and how much hotel I can get for my budget.

many thanks

Lucy

Yes hotel taxes are approx 13.625% plus an occupancy tax of $2 per room, per day. Are you from the US as websites in the US generally don%26#39;t include tax, but if you are from the UK most UK websites include taxes, you will have to check the small print

Some sites don%26#39;t include tax be careful. If you want to book the Casablanca (which i have for end of JAN) book asap because i booked late DEC and now the hotel is fully booked. (it only has 40 rooms)

You%26#39;ve gotten the answer to the tax question. With the occupancy daily fee, the tax comes to around 15%. Why would you book with a tour co???? You can probably do better on your own by booking direct.

I can%26#39;t understand why you%26#39;d put the Ameritania in with the other nice hotels. It%26#39;s not very good. If you want a less expensive option, the Courtyard Times Square South is a much better option. Which Doubletree do you mean? The one in Times Square is nice with suites. The D. Metropolitan is not as nice.

Thank you all for your replies, I will keep an eye out for the small print on taxes. I have been comparing prices and agree that booking directly looks cheaper, plus the hotel%26#39;s own website seem to include taxes.

I think I have decided on the Casablanca (I think the Sofitel or Doubletree in Times Square are over my budget sadly). All the reviews look fantastic, and the location looks great. Does anyone know if the bathrooms have full size bath tubs in them please? Might be stupid question, but after all that walking I know I%26#39;m going to want to have a long soak before dinner! And at 6%26#39; tall a half tub is not much use to me!

The reason I had considered the Ameritania was because a friend had stayed there and enjoyed it, and also it%26#39;s proximity to Central Park. But am hoping Times Square to Central Park is only a 15-20 min walk, for if we feel the need for a bit of space and quiet?

Thanks again for all your replies!

Lucy

I will let you know about the bath tub in the Casablanca when i return on 28th of JAN. If you can%26#39;t wait that long email the Casablanca Hotel direct.

Hi LK!

I am currently trying to book the Casablanca for December. I found a great deal on expedia which you may also be able to get for Jan. Its a bit unclear about the taxes booking it through expedia but I assume the price advertised is without tax. I e-mailed the hotel but am still unclear. Let me know if you have any joy!

Thanks!

Enjoy your trip!

Were you on the US or UK expedia? Did you have to pre pay as usually with Expedia UK the taxes are included, and in the price it lists exactly how much they are.

Just had alook at Expedia and I would say the price is without taxes as they are usually listed exactly on the left hand side with the room cost. If you have to pre pay on Expedia taxes are included but this looks like to don%26#39;t have to pre pay so are not inlcuded?

It was expedia.co.uk and it was a promotional rate from 1st Dec for 5 nights. it says taxes may or may not be included in the total price!! It says that the credit card is only used to guarantee the reservation. Venere.com had a good rate too but I%26#39;m guessing it will probably be the same story with them and taxes!

I have just read that the website has a best rate guarantee so I have e-mailed the hotel directly to see if they would be prepared to match the rates quoted on expedia. I will let you know when they reply!
