Hotel taxes

Can anyone tell me what are the types of taxes that should be added on top of hotel room rates? I saw there is a 13.75% , additional 2-6$ taxes per night, and now I hear from a friend that there is an additional municipal tax. Is this correct?

Hotel taxes

I just returned from a 2-night stay in NYC.

My room rate total was $304.20 + Taxes/Fees: $47.69 for a total of $351.89.

Hope this gives you some insight on charges for lodging.

I think if you add about 15-16% to the base room price, you should be close to the actual final price you%26#39;ll pay.

The tax rate is 13.375%

There is an additional $3.50 per room/per night tax

Actually there are lots of taxes, i just added them together for you

State sales tax 4%

City sales tax 4%

MTA sales tax 0.375%

Hotel sales tax 5%

Hotel occupancy tax $2.00

Hotel occupancy fee $1.50

I%26#39;m not sure that I have the amounts correct, but the totals above are correct. If you add 15% you will get a close approximation.

For some reason taxes are usually NOT included in the price when listing prices in the US, however any merchant should tell you the total.
