Quirky Hotel That Won't Cost The Earth?

Now, I know this may be a stretch for NYC, but ...

We%26#39;re looking for a hotel in Manhattan for our 4 night stopover 4-8th May this year.

We%26#39;re a youngish couple who are looking to shop and see, eat and drink all that NYC has to throw at us!

Can anyone recommend a suitable hotel that isn%26#39;t going to cost a fortune? We are looking to spend around 拢50 - 拢75 GBP per nite (so around $100 - $150) and would prefer not to share a bathroom.

I%26#39;ve previously stayed at the Gershwin a few years back but the reviews lately seem to have gone downhill.

Can anyone recommend anything hip but easy on the pocket? Is the Carlton Arms any good?

I%26#39;ll list my old reliables--Herald Square Hotel and Red Roof Inn, both in the Herald Square area and both quite reasonable most of the year. You%26#39;re very close to Penn Station and Macy%26#39;s and Times Sqaure is a 10 minute walk.

The Carlton Arms in supposed to be very quirky but also very slim on basic amenities..check out their website.

Radio City apts. would have been ideal but it%26#39;s booked for your dates.

For a 4 night stay, your very best option is to bid on Priceline for a 4* hotel. You will likely get one for $110-150/night (plus tax) but it%26#39;s probably too early for May right now. Book a cancellable reservation somewhere and start trying Priceline. Read biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com for help. I would consider the Larchmont Hotel in the village. While it%26#39;s got shared bathrooms, it%26#39;s a great location and a decent place.

You should also keep an eye on travelzoo.com (register for email from them). They have specials that sometimes fall in that price range (they sometimes have $139/night specials).

Hi we stayed at Astor on the Park in Central Park West, right opposite the park between 107th and 108th St. Basic but very clean rooms and sheets and towels changed daily. Would check out their prices, not sure on nightly rates as we got as a package with flights.

We love the Chelsea Lodge. Gets great TA reviews. Great price, location etc. Nice neighborhood and close to 2 subway stops.

Good Luck

Great guys, thanks - some good things to go on there. I really did not envisage it being so difficult to find something affordable when I booked my flights!

We actually saw the radio city apts, and then a few days later went to book - and the availability was gone :(

Not really heard about priceline.com but I will check that out.

Thanks for all your tips, keep em coming if you think of anything else!

:)

Thanks guys - I managed to get booked in at second home second avenue - the reviews are excellent and such good value!

thanks for all your help :)
