Honeymoon Hotel Tips

A friend is getting married in the summer and are going to New York for their first time and obviously for their honeymoon.

They are staying at the Sofitel but i am wondering does anyone have any tips how there are any special deals to be had for honeymooners ???

I have heard that upgrades can be had but as i have yet to get married i do not know if they are urban myths ?

Any help would be welcomed

I don%26#39;t know much about specifics, but:

1. They MUST tell the Sofitel now IN ADVANCE that they are there on their honeymoon. That will increase the odds of upgrades, better service, freebies, etc. (Worked for us!) ;o) They shouldn%26#39;t just say at check-in, ';Oh by the way, nothing important really, but thought we should mention we%26#39;re on our honeymoon....';

Most hotels and especially restaurants and shops like making a bit of a fuss over newlyweds, even if just for a few moments. Don%26#39;t be shy! Mention it whenever you can!

2. On the other hand, I%26#39;d be wary of ';honeymoon special'; travel deals. I%26#39;m of the opinion that the Matrimonial Industrial Complex doubles the price of anything with the word ';wedding'; attached to it. Sure, there may be real deals out there, but do some research and comparisons to see if it%26#39;s actually any better than ';a la carte'; tickets or other packages.

Thanks for that advice.. i have told them to ring in advance to confirm that they are honeymooners on their first trip to the states...

i am nearly as excited as they are....!!!!

They should also join the Sofitel Privilege Guest club in advance. Between that and the honeymoon, they will surely be upgraded.

It really doesnt matter - every room has that incredible bed that makes you never want to leave the room! I regularly stay in the Chicago Sofitel, and they give me the river view thanks to the affinity club, but I%26#39;d be happy in that bed facing an airshaft!

That was a fantastic idea and its already come in handy as they were looking for another hotel in another city do they can get extra points with..
