First timers need hotel central and good standard

Me and my best friend will be in New York in June for our 40th birthdays. We%26#39;re a bit overwhelmed by the hotel horror stories. Can anyone recommend any hotels that are central for shopping, broadway etc. Location is important and they need to be clean and comfortable and safe.

Also we will be in town for 4 nights. Any %26#39;must do%26#39;s%26#39; in the way of trips, restaurants and bars etc.

Thanks so much for your help

My sister was very happy with Jolly Hotel Madison Towers, very centrally situated on East 38th Street.

We go and stay in the City quite often.

This past weekend we stayed at the Wellington, 7th Avenue and 55th Street.

Clean room, accommodating staff, good, really good location (from my window I spotted 6 different places to get food, the most well known, The Carnegie Deli right across the street) for the theater etc.

A two night stay was $351.00 US including all taxes and fees.

I%26#39;m sure others have stayed there and might have other opinions, I believe people have grandiose expectations about hotels thus producing some reviews that are not really fair and balanced; if I were going back to NYC soon, I would stay there again.

Also, it was mostly populated by tourist groups, many of whom were smiling.

It is a decent property IMO.

E. 38th and what?

Always give the cross street, makes it a lot easier to locate a hotel, etc.

Sorry about that. 22 (thinks, almost sure) East 38th Street off Madison Avenue.
