My girlfriend and I have booked the Crown Plaza United Nations for 3 days this month for my 40th Birthday. Its our first trip to NYC. Could I have suggestions please for Breafast and also Dinner options. We are booked at the Tribeca Gril for 27th Jan but need options for the other 2 nights ? Price range around $100 for dinner and cool clean options for Breakfast. Also any decent bars for evening close by. I undestand the Grand Cental Station is only a couple of blocks away.

Grand Central is only a couple blocks away. I am very familiar with the neighborhood.
There is a diner on 39th and 3rd called Frontier or something, it may be a good option for breakfast.
There are diners along 2nd Avenue in the low 40%26#39;s as well.
For dinner I would recommend coming down to the Village. Union Sq. Cafe, Mesa Grill, Gramercy Tavern, all very nice, may be a bit above $100.00 if that is total bill for two, if its per person it won%26#39;t be that high unless you order expensive wine.
Cibo is a nice place, across the street, sort of corporate.
Osteria Laguna is on 42nd Street.
Docks Oyster Bar.
English is Italian
Why not venture across to restaurant row, 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues.
You can have breakfast in Chelsea at Cafeteria, my favorite, but not super close (take the 7 to Times Sq. and the 1 to 18th St)
There are just too many choices.
Are you a big fan of Asian, French, Latin, give us some more detail.
Asia de Cuba comes to mind, 11 Madison Park (sp?), so many choices I%26#39;m getting hungry.

The best restaurant in that neighborhood for dinner is L%26#39;Impero in Tudor City. Excellent. In your price range unless you go crazy on wines.
Nearby, I also like Django on Lexington at 46th. Excellent food and service - beautiful room. I take a lot of locally based clients there, and everyone loves it.
There%26#39;s an excellent Japanese restaurant on 43rd between 2nd and 3rd - Sushi Yasuda. If you want something really special try to make a reservation at the sushi bar with Yasuda serving you (any of the other chefs are good, but he%26#39;s the master and tends to be less stiff than the other guys)
I%26#39;m not sure where on 45th it is, but we just got a branch of a place called Dishes (breakfast/lunch) that is also on 45th near Grand Central that%26#39;s amazing! I, and everyone else in this neighborhood seems to get lunch there every day. Its pricey, but excellent prepared foods/soups, etc. I would get there at noon, or earlier. Its a zoo with bad flow, but worth the aggravation!
I am familiar with all the places the previous person mentioned except the new place on 45th Street which I am not familiar with.
Django is excellent, Sushi Yasuda is very popular, L%26#39;Impero is really special. L%26#39;Impero is in Tudor City, it feels very removed from the city, its great (and its a two minute walk up the steps from the hotel).
If you stay for, well, if you stay for the rest of your life you%26#39;ll still never get to eat at all the restaurants, New York has the best restaurants in the world.
Thanks guys, it looks like we have plenty of options for the eating part.
Are there any bars close to our Hotel, where we can just sit and enjoy a beer or two in a nice casual manor?
Although I have not been, there is a bar that a number of people really like called The View (on 44th or 45th Street).
Other people like going across the street from the hotel to Fiesta Cantina, big bar (and some nibbles) on 2nd Avenue at 42nd Street (NE corner). Big festive, fun place.
I love going to Metrazur in Grand Central Terminal and watching the throngs of commuters rush for their trains. Metrazur is very nice, very pleasant place to have a couple glasses of wine in an atmosphere that is as unique to New York as can be.
The bars in the neighborhood by your hotel are pretty corporate. You get a lot of suits after work (and UN people in certain places). If that%26#39;s your style, I would just start on 2nd Ave and walk uptown or downtown until you see something that appeals to you. Uptown is one bar after another... Downtown they%26#39;re a little more sparse... I work in the 50s so everything that comes to mind is a little further uptown (Turtle Bay, Maloney %26amp; Porcelli)
Since you opted for Tribeca Grill first, I%26#39;m guessing you%26#39;re more ';downtown'; types (like me) or have a thing for De Niro! In that case, I%26#39;d think more about hanging out below 30th Street. I%26#39;d just walk around after dinner and see what looks good to you. Then, as you%26#39;re traveling around sightseeing, notice what looks good in passing. There are so many bars, its hard to advise! Park Ave South has a lot of fun places.
I hear the comfort diner near our friends Hotel ';the Alex'; which is on 45th is supposed to be ok.
Anyone been there or have comments ?
