I am flying into JFK on 8th Feb and will be travelling alone however i am meeting a friend at the Milford Plaza. Could you please tell me the best way to get to my hotel seeing as i am on my own. is this one instance where i should just jump in a cab and not worry about the expense? the hotel mentioned the %26#39;supershuttle%26#39; but i would appreciate any opinions from those in the know.
1st timer...help please
I would go the cab route - easy, efficient, no hassle about directions. Fare is $45.00 plus toll and tip expect to spend $55-60 US.

I would advise against the Supershuttle, since bad experiences drastically outnumber good ones from travelers%26#39; reports here.

I%26#39;d highly recommend the AirTrain to the E train at Jamaica to 42nd Street/8th Ave/Times Square. Then, walk a few blocks.
The AirTrain is $5.00 (you pay as you exit the AirTrain). Take it to the Jamaica Station. Then by a MetroCard ($2.00 for a single ride, but you might as well buy more rides) to get on the subway and take the E train into Manhattan. Stay in the back of the train. Get off at 42nd Street/Times Square.
Yup, take Poppa%26#39;s advice and jump in a cab. There will be plenty waiting for you.
thank you i appreciate the quick response. will definately give the shuttle a miss. cant wait for my trip. i have been dreaming about it for nearly 20 years.
Having used both of the above methods (and lived in NY for 20 years), I%26#39;ll recommend a compromise to the two methods mentioned above:
The NEW YORK AIRPORT SERVICE BUS.
Info at: http://www.nyairportservice.com/fares.html
Take the bus from outside of your terminal to the PORT AUTHORITY (bus terminal). The fare is $15 one way or $27 round trip. When you arrive at PORT AUTHORITY, you%26#39;ll need to walk the 4 or 5 blocks (up 8th Avenue) to your hotel or you could jump in a cab.
Just a note: The PORT AUTHORITY is the second stop the bus makes in Manhattan (Grand Central Terminal is the first). Sometimes the bus continues on to PORT AUTHORITY; sometimes you are transferred to another vehicle for the short ride there. (If you%26#39;re not sure what to do, ask the driver).
Have fun!
thank you hopskipjump. that sounds like a good alternative too. i will be arriving at about 1.30pm so as long as the weather is ok i like the sound of a 4 walk at the end. and to be honest i would rather save any money i could for shopping. i think i will see how comfortable i feel on the day but thank you so much for giving me the options.
