Room in NY in June

Looking for a room 2nd-5th June in New York.

Last time we stayed at Holiday Inn Midtown 57th street. Liked the rooftop pool, but this hotel is $266 per night this year (paid $139 per night in sept 02)....so I%26#39;m feeling it%26#39;s not good value, and I really don%26#39;t want to pay that much if I can help it.

Does anyone know any hidden gems that might be a great deal? I%26#39;m really struggling, and I am even thinking of the Red Roof Inn in Secaucus (as it%26#39;s only $118 and has a bus service from outside the hotel and it has been remodelled).

The Red Roof Inn Secaucus has bus service during RUSH HOURS only Monday-Friday! Plan accordingly.

Much has changed since %26#39;02. You%26#39;ll rarely find a decent room for under $150. Radiocityapartments.com is one idea but booked for some of your dates.

Bidding for a 4* hotel on Priceline is your best bet and for a 3 night stay, you should be able to get something for $110-150 but it might take a while.

If you want to stay in NJ, you%26#39;re better off in Jersey City near a PATH train than Secaucus with a bus. If you bid on Priceline for 3* in Jersey City, you could get the Hyatt Regency Jersey City or the Doubletree Club. Check biddingfortravel.com for help.

Thank you both so far.

Firstly about Red Roof, I don%26#39;t want to be stuck somewhere, so I do need to know about the bus service. I%26#39;m thinking a taxi to there would defeat the good price!

I am tempted to try priceline but I don%26#39;t have a clue where to start - I find it quite intimidating to be honest. I did look at bidding for travel website and found that a little intimidating also.

If I do that, I%26#39;d probably be thinking midtown, and I%26#39;d need to look into the 3 and 4* properties to see what I think is best.....I would pay $200 but I%26#39;m thinking that%26#39;s more than that is going to feel like too much.

For priceline, I noticed someone saying they used the %26#39;free bid%26#39; option and it made me think do you have to pay for a bid. Maybe you can only bid once a day or something and a free bid is a second bid in the same day that they might allow??? Can anyone clarify.

Also when do they charge your card (and is it them or the hotel?), and when is the best time for me to bid for early June on a sat for 3 nights? Should I find myself a cancellable deal somewhere meantime and then do I have to wait till later to try priceline? Do I have anything to lose by making some low bids to see if I just happen to get something?

Sorry for all the questions!

Can anyone answer my questions about priceline.

I have tried it now yesterday and today, and it allowed me to choose another category and bid again. Then this morning it allowed me to re-choose. I take it the %26#39;free rebid%26#39; is just another chance that day where you can open up the search a bit?
