Recommendations for a drink with a good view or ambience

Hi

I am looking for places to go for a drink or even a meal where there is a view or a good ambience.

However there is a catch I will have a 2 year old (well behaved) child with me. I am not sure what the liquor laws are like in NYC.

I know she can go to the rooftop cafe at the Met.

However we were wondering whether we would be able to take her with us if we went for drink at the Rainbow grill. She can come with us if we went for Sunday brunch. Has anyone had brunch there is it a worthwhile thing to do?

The other resturant which I am interested in is the Russian Tea Room. This is from reading to many Jacqueline Sussan and Harold Robbins novels in my youth....

Have they opened for lunch or brunch yet? Is this a fun thing to do?

Any other suggestions for bars or resturants with a view would be appreciated. I think we are also planning to go to the Basin Cafe (not sure I have the right name) in the park on the Upper West Side sorry having a blank I know it starts with R.

Thank you

Em

Recommendations for a drink with a good view or ambience

You don%26#39;t say what time of year you%26#39;re coming, but if it%26#39;s nice weather, the lakeside setting of the Boathouse Restaurant in Central Park has a lovely view. You can sit inside or out on the deck, though it does get crowded in summer, especially on weekends. It%26#39;s not a skyscraper view, but I think it%26#39;s very special.

I%26#39;m sorry I don%26#39;t know whether other ';view'; restaurant policies wll allow a toddler in. I doubt they will at peak evening times though.

We are coming for the month of may. Thanks Bettina the Boathouse sounds lovely.

The rooftop cafe at the Met is not what you have in mind I%26#39;m afraid. It%26#39;s really just the roof with a small cart with premade food and some drinks and not much seating space.

If your 2 yr old is well behaved, I%26#39;d just phone (or email) any place you%26#39;re interested in going and ask if there would be a problem. Sunday brunch at the Rainbow Grill is VERY expensive and supposedly not so good. The one place that everyone loves for food and great views is the River Cafe and I think you could go there for drinks or brunch without a problem.

It sounds like you mean the 79th st. Boat Basin Cafe and that would be a good idea. There are also some more casual restaurants with nice views downtown in Battery Park City on the Hudson.

Yes the Boat Basin that is it. Thanks.

I think I will skip the Rainbow room brunch - as I looked at the menu and it just appeared to be like any hotel buffet.

I may have been prepared to risk it if I did not have a child in tow - as we could sit and relax and look at the view for a few hours. But even though she is well behaved I think 90 mins is about her limit for a meal.

The Lobby Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental in the Time Warner Building has great lunches and an incredible view of Central Park. At Columbus Circle.
