priceline

Hey all, Just wondering is it possible for Irish users to use priceline. I cant seem to find a site which will accept and irish credit card. Thanks

priceline

That is strange, I thought everybody could use priceline. Let%26#39;s see if anybody else can add something a little more useful, I have never heard this before.

Did you go to priceline.com, not priceline.co.uk or anything.

priceline

Yes Irish users may use priceline. There is a thread about how to do it on betterbidding.com. Also a lot of other useful priceline info there, recommend reading through it and posting a question on the New York board there before bidding.

brilliant. Thanks very much to both of you. I tried .com and .co.uk but each time I had put in my address it wouldnt let me use it. Thanks again. Now hopefully I can find a bargain!!

Choo...I can also give you a few pointers (maybe). Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks a million. Im a bit worried now. I was stupid and before I thought of posting here I emailed priceline customer services so obviously they said that I cant bid and now Im a bit worried if I go ahead and bid that I might be charged and not get my room. Think Im being paranoid but still a bit worried. Is hotwire as good or is priceline better? Thanks again voyagereuse. Can I just ask one more thing too?! Is it possible to kind of pick out a specific hotel-the one that I%26#39;d love to get is the parker meridien

hi Voyagereuse, after reading betterbidding, I would really like to get le parker meridien. Would you know roughly what I would have to bid to get that for July? I know that Im looking at it way too early but just even to get a rough idea. Thanks

Did you try the 90210 thing? Worked for us last night. Amazing when most Irish/UK sites reject your card if there%26#39;s a spelling mistake in your address but priceline allows you to live in Dublin, Ireland, 90210!

Choogirl, sorry I missed your post from 1/3.

About priceline- When you name your own price, you can%26#39;t choose your hotel, priceline does it for you. You get to pick the star level (4* is the usually the best way to go in my opinion), neighborhood (midtown west, midtown east are usually popular), and you get to name your price. You will get whatever hotel fits that perameter or you will be rejected and have to rebid. If your bid is accepted, priceline will immediately charge your credit card. It is non-refundable. So there is a risk involved.

The two most common 4* hotels I see being won on priceline are the Hilton NY and Towers in midtown west and The Grand Hyatt in midtown east. Both are large hotels catering to business travelers which is why they often have excess rooms they are willing to sell off cheaply just to keep their hotels filled.

Your chances of getting Le Parker Meridien are slim. It%26#39;s possible but not overly likely because the way priceline works, it gives you the hotel that will accept your bid. Le Parker Meridien is in the Upper Midtown-Central Park South zone, and that zone rarely seems to win.

Now on the other hand there is hotwire, a priceline sibling, but a different animal altogether. Since this response is long, I am going to post about hotwire in the next box.....

Hotwire:

The way hotwire works, there is no bidding.

You plug in your travel dates and number of people in your party. Unlike priceline which only guarantees one bed per room, hotwire will guarantee sleeping for more people per room. (Hotels not willing to guarantee two beds or enough sleeping accomodations for more than two will not show up when you proceed.)

After you plug in your travel dates, and number of people in your party, hotwire will give you a bunch of options ranging from 1* to 5*. Focus on the 4* offerings.

You will be given a per room price, neighborhood, star level and AMENITIES and that is the key to deciphering what these hotels are.

There is a pinned hotwire list on betterbidding.com which identifies many hotwire offerings, so before you purchase you can be reasonably certain what you are buying. Like priceline, hotwire only reveals what the hotel is after your credit card is charged. And like priceline it is non-refundable. So there is risk involved.

Now for Le Parker Meridien... It usually appears on hotwire as:

Midtown Central, 4* , ';Customer Favorite'; Amenities: Restaurant, Fitness Center, Hi-Speed internet, Business Center, Spa.

However, things are subject to change and sometimes just to be naughty hotwire drops an amenity every now and again.

Another way to get an idea of the hotel - You can click ';packages'; such as airfare and hotel for example, then plug in your travel dates. Hotwire will give you packages and will describe the hotels available by name with their star rating and amenities. Just another handy tool to help identify hotwire hotels.

Choogirl,

I think you can safely use Athtrana%26#39;s method with no worries.
