Macy's or bloomingdales?

My boyfriend is not a huge fan of shopping so i have promised to keep it to a min! I want to go to one big store and get done, the thing iam interested in buying are sunglasses (dior, prada etc) cosmetics and some bits for him, high end like boss and then puma nike etc.I also need to find an aveda store and some uggs? thanks

Macy's or bloomingdales?

I am not a fan of Bloomingdales, but I love Macy%26#39;s. Both stores offer an 11% discount coupon for out of towners, so make sure you get one. Mayc%26#39;s has a great men%26#39;s section (make sure you hit the mezzanine floor, lots of Puma, Nike etc). They have lots of cosmetics, sunglasses, maybe even Uggs, not 100% sure.

Sephora is also a great place for cosmetics, there is one on 34th Street @ Broadway, right near Macys.

Aveda stores:

509 Madison Ave @ 53rd St

456 W. Broadway - Soho

btwn Prince and Houston

140 5th Ave @ 19th St-Flatiron Area

233 Spring St btwn 6th and Varick - Soho

Macy's or bloomingdales?

thanks for the quick response, i plan on buying a lot of aveda because its sooooooooo expensive in the uk? sorry to be a pain but we are staing at the w in times square, are any o f these store close buy?

The closest would be 53rd %26amp; Madison. Your hotel is Broadway @47th Street, so it would be a 10 block walk, very doable.

Let me add that when you go to Macy%26#39;s ask for a floor plan. This store is huge and many find it intimidating, but if you know where to go, you will have a much better shopping experience, and great bargains as well.

NYC Girl, how do I go about getting an %26#39;out of town%26#39; 11% discount voucher? That sounds great!!

Go to the customer service desk, present your out of town ID, and there you go.

You may also want to check into getting a Macy%26#39;s credit card. I don%26#39;t know if it is the same at the Macy%26#39;s in New York, but here you often get extra discounts (10-20%) when you use your Macy%26#39;s card. Also, check the newspaper for discount coupons, usually 15-20% off. I doubt you could use them in addition to the 11% discount, but 15 or 20 is even better!

I%26#39;m commenting on the post above mine - I notice the OP is from the UK. Will Macy%26#39;s offer credit cards to International visitors?

Thanks.

Mez.

I took a quick look at Macy%26#39;s website, and it does appear that the credit card is only available to U.S. residents. It might be worth an e-mail just to confirm that, though. Even if you can%26#39;t get a Macy%26#39;s card, watch the newspaper for coupons. Seems like we have them at least once or twice a week here.

Well here%26#39;s a different point of view. I hate Macy%26#39;s (it%26#39;s huge and sales help is non existent or rude). I don%26#39;t love Bloomingdales, but prefer it to Macy%26#39;s. It%26#39;s true you get an 11 % discount at both for most things if you register at customer service before shopping, but it won%26#39;t include cosmetics. It may include sunglasses. Bloomingdales also has a second smaller store in Soho which, while not as much merchandise, might be a good spot to check. (Not sure about 11 % discount there). There%26#39;s an Aveda store in Soho too at 456 West Broadway which is not far from Bloomies there.

My husband doesn%26#39;t like shopping either and he won%26#39;t go into Macy%26#39;s. Any of the dept. stores will carry what you want I think. Saks, Bergdorf and Barney%26#39;s will all have designer sunglasses and cosmetics (not all carry all the same brands) and are nicer buying experiences. Depending on when you%26#39;re coming, there may be sales going on anyway. (there are now-but not on sunglasses). Barney%26#39;s has a very good men%26#39;s dept.

But if you know what brand of sunglasses you want, you%26#39;ll find a better selection by going to that boutique (ie the Prada store or Dior).

For Uggs, if there%26#39;s a particular style you want or you%26#39;re a hard to fit size, do some homework online first and make sure you know who has want you want. In addition to Bloomingdales (NOT Macy%26#39;s) they%26#39;re carried at Saks, David Z (shoe store with many locations), Harry%26#39;s shoes (upper west side),. Footgear, Paragon Sporting Goods , Tip Toe Shoes (also upper westside). Many if not all of these places would also have puma, nike etc. for boyfriend. There%26#39;s a Nike store on Fifth Ave. right across from Bergdorf%26#39;s.
