Itinerary Advice Please!

Hello

I%26#39;m going to NY for 7 nights with my mum in August and need to plan it now as I%26#39;m meeting here there after travelling through Europe for a few months first.

I was hoping you could have a look at what I%26#39;ve planned so far and offer any advice on it.

Most of the tourist things come as part of the package we are buying and we figured we may as well do them ie- the cruise, helicopter ride.

TIA for you comments.

Amanda

DAY 5 TUES 7TH AUG

DAY 6 WED 8TH AUG

Helicopter Ride (lasts just 10 - 12mins)

DAY 7 THURS 9TH AUG

We also get to see a Broadway show but am not sure when as have not received our package from travel agent yet.

Would like to see the AMNH and go to Top of the Rock but as we are going up the Empire State in the morning, thought we should do this at dusk - should we do it day 1? Is there anything we%26#39;ve missed? Any good Central Park tours?

Thanks

what about good central park tours?

thanks

I don%26#39;t know of any Central Park tours. Perhaps there are some but you won%26#39;t need one. In spite of what you may have seen on television or in the movies, Central Park is a very safe area . . . at least in the daytime. There is a great deal to do and you can do most of it on your own. There are many street performers with interesting shows. There is a wonderful pond to go rowing on . . . it%26#39;s quite inexpensive, something like $10 for a half hour. There%26#39;s a great merry-go-round (or carousel). There%26#39;s a specialmpond for model sailboat races. And of course, as you know from watching the movie ';Madagascar'; . . . there%26#39;s a zoo!

Try exploring the official site http://www.centralparknyc.org/

and the unofficial http://www.centralpark.com/

Purchase your tickets to the Empire State Building online and you will avoid half of the wait.

If you%26#39;re at Central Park be sure to stop by the FAO Schwartz toy store at 57th and 5th. You can even play on the giant piano made famous by Tom Hanks in the movie ';Big';. Also, while you%26#39;re in that area, walk a couple of blocks to 59th and 1st and ride the Roosevelt Island Tram which was in ';Spiderman';. It%26#39;s cheap, fun and offers some of the very best views of the city.

What sort of things interest you and will you be traveling with kids?

Also, if you%26#39;re interested in ';star gazing'; walk over to the Regency Hotel on 61st and Park Avenue. Known as ';Hollywood East'; it%26#39;s a wonderful hotel. It has a low key lounge called ';The Library'; which is adjacent to the lobby. Order a drink and something to eat . . . and sit back and watch. It%26#39;s very popular with actors, politicians and business moguls. It%26#39;s definitely not the sort of place to ask for an autograph but you%26#39;lll be sure to see some stars.

Nope no kids just me (20) and mum. I thought though if you buy the ESB online tickets you can%26#39;t go the whole way to the top?

It%26#39;s true that you must buy your 102nd floor tickets on site but . . .

It%26#39;s not necessary to go up there. The views are the same from the 86th floor and you%26#39;ll save $15 each. Remember, the 86th floor observation deck is the primary observation area and the 102nd floor just reopened last year. Also, I%26#39;m not sure but I think you may still be able to bypass part of the line if you buy your initial ticket online. The 102nd floor is an extra $15 in addittion to the cost of the 86th floor ticket. Trust me the lines at the ESB, can make a visit very ';not fun'; especially in a popular tourist time and especially if you%26#39;re asking your middle aged mother to wait with you!

In general, look for ways to avoid lines while in Manhattan . . . not participate in them!

By the way, the Roosevelt Island Tram site is http://www.rioc.com/

Also, I noticed that you%26#39;re going to Central Park on Tuesday . . . it%26#39;s more fun on Saturday or Sunday. Also, shopping is busier and less fun on the weekend so you might want to adjust the plan.

Also, in case you%26#39;re nervous about NYC advice from someone who is in Tampa FL . . . relax, I lived in Manhattan for several years and still have to visit often for business and with the family . . . so I promise my advice for touring with your mom is ok!
