Idea for Sunday afternoon (arrival day)

I%26#39;ve search previous posts and reports but am looking for ideas for next (!) Sunday afternoon. We think we should be at the Hyatt Grand Central for 3pm and will want to head out for a couple of hours before Dinner.

Last time we went to TOTR after we arrived and loved it. Don%26#39;t think the queues at the ESB are ideal for people just off a trans-Atlantic flight.

Would prefer something that doesn%26#39;t have to be pre-booked in case of any travel delays.

Any ideas?

I usually enjoy getting outside and walking after a long flight. If the weather is decent, how about heading over to Central Park? Or, walk around Chinatown or Soho. If the weather is too frigid or windy, maybe Madame Tussaud%26#39;s Wax Museum. I think any other musuem may be overwhelming after the long flight.

How about the Staten Island Ferry? Very relaxing. Takes an hour. Not to mention, it%26#39;s free.

Or how about coffee in Greenwich Village? Try Cafe Reggio on MacDougal and Bleecker.

When I fly in I usually give myself an hour to unpack and get to know my hotel. Then a quick walk to Central Park and a nice dinner at the hotel or other neighborhood restaurant that serves good food, a good martini and a glass of good wine. After that I walk a few blocks and then head back to the thotel to snooze. Long flights can be wearing and getting adjusted to a new time zone takes a toll.

I always pre-book with notes to hotels that I may arrive late. That has worked out well for me.

If you are thinking of theater on your first night, I%26#39;d advise not. I went to a show on my first night in London last fall and slept through the first half, spent the second half trying to figure out what it was all about.

Thanks for the great ideas. Still waiting for the city walks to arrive so that would help with Greenwich or Chinatown.

Madam Tussauds a good idea, had great fun in the London one for my brthday this week

If you want to stick close to the hotel, for bad weather, you%26#39;re right next to Grand Central. Have a walk inside and maybe a drink at the Campbell Apartments. (I think they%26#39;re open on Suns.) If it%26#39;s nice weather, walk up to Fifth Ave. and maybe check out Bryant Park and watch the skaters (or join in ;)
