I%26#39;ve narrowed down our choice of hotel to the following 3: The Roosevelt, Park Central and New York Helmsley. Has anyone had any experience of any of these? Perhaps one is in a better place than the others. I%26#39;ve read reviews but they still confuse me sometimes when someone can give an excellent review followed by someone giving an awful one, who to believe! So any last minute help before I book one for mid Feb would be great.
Any experience of these 3
We stayed at the Park Central a couple of years ago on a Priceline bid and it was fine. The location was fantastic with a subway stop right at your doorstep. Our room was a nice size as far as NYC hotel rooms go and, as far as I can remember, pretty clean. There were a few problems with the ice machines and getting enough towels but nothing major.

Any experience of these 3
I%26#39;d be curious to know prices for these 3. The Park Central has the best location of the 3 (near TS, theaters, Central Park and Fifth Ave.) but is the most uneven in terms of rooms. Some are good and some are not. The Roosevelt is a lovely older tradtional hotel but also uneven rooms, some fine and others really dated. The NY Helmsley is probably the safest bet for a decent room. It%26#39;s near Grand Central but not as close to the theaters.
Have you checked the specials on travelzoo.com ? If the Millenium Broadway is avail. for your dates, that might be nice. Also check the affinia.com site. You might be able to get a 1 bedroom suite at the Shelburne Murray Hill for about the same price as these. Very nice and a ktichen to boot.
Thanks for advice. I am doing a package deal flights included for 5 nights from the 11th Feb as I can%26#39;t beat the prices at the moment doing flights and hotel seperate. So through expedia or dreamusa I found these flight + accom for the following prices Roosevelt is 拢577 per person Park Central 拢613 and New York Helmsley 拢574 but I will look into the other hotels mentioned and the travelzoo site I haven%26#39;t looked at yet so will check that out.
Good grief, those dates you chose have such high airfare prices! It may be that since you%26#39;d be leaving on the Sat., you%26#39;re not staying over Sat. night. The lowest fares require a Sat. night stay. What sort of flights does that package include? Nonstop?
I think if you were to adjust your dates by a day or 2 and fly home on Sunday or Monday the 18th, the fares go down by half or more. I found a fare of less than 600 pounds for both of you on BA! That would leave quite a lot for hotel.
Would love to change dates and stay until Sunday but my daughter is on her half term break that week and she is taking her exams this year so can%26#39;t miss any school and I think she would be exhausted on the Monday if we flew in on the Sunday (We plan to try and fit loads in as it%26#39;s our first trip to America let alone New York ). But I am tempted to see what prices I come up with changing the dates as it would mean more money for the Prom dress we are going shopping for :)
Oh I forgot to say yes they are non stop flights with Virgin from Heathrow to JFK
I think you just have to stay on a Sat. night to get cheaper fares. What about leaves UK on the Sat. to arrive here Sat (10th?) instead of leaving the 11th? Do you need a room for 2 or 3? The prices I looked at were for 2.
Looking for a room for 2 myself and my daughter we are leaving hubby and sons behind as we are celebrating her 16th and my 40th with this sightseeing shopping trip :) I think I am going to look into different dates now (she has a ballet lesson on the 10th which we are going to face the wrath of her teacher and miss it) Perhaps extend our visit if the price is right and do sat - sat which will give us extra 2 days which we need as there is soooo much we want to do. Thanks for the help
I think all you need is one Sat. stay. I use kayak.com to look at relative prices. ;)
Thanks I will have a look and see what it comes up with if i change my dates
